A trail of giant lantern sculptures has been installed at key cultural landmarks in Derby to shine a light on the city’s cultural diversity.
Local artist Frazer Johnston has been commissioned to create the lantern sculptures by Surtal Arts, the long-established Derby organisation rooted in traditional South Asian arts, as part of the Derby Season of Light festival of activities, events and performances which have been taking place between September and December.

A 60-year-old has said old dogs can be taught new tricks after signing up for an apprenticeship with Derby-based Blue Lion Training Academy.
Pat Mullen, 60, a technical manager at Ineos chemicals company in county Durham, is currently studying for a level five apprenticeship delivered by Blue Lion, based at Pride Park in Derby.
Blue Lion Training Academy gives adult learners the opportunity to gain apprenticeships to allow them to benefit the organisations they work for.

New BSL Resources Highlight Dangers of Child Exploitation
The Royal School for the Deaf Derby has produced a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted video in partnership with Derbyshire’s specialist child exploitation charity, Safe and Sound.
The video feature students from the school in Ashbourne Road who sign the question and answer scenarios that raise awareness amongst the deaf community of child exploitation.

Local Businesses Sought For Festive Events That Will Help Make Christmas Less Stressful For Derby families
Independent businesses in Derby are being encouraged to help spread some festive cheer at a series of unique Christmas events being held in the city.
Organised by Sunshine Support, an award-winning not-for-profit organisation that supports parents and professionals of children with special educational needs and disabilities, there will be six events in the run up to the festive season, including wreath making and a ‘Dads-Only’ shopping event.
