Derby Theatre are hosting their first Dementia Friendly performance this Saturday 4^th August.

Music enthusiasts are being invited to take a bow at a cabaret which the star is performing as a thank-you for all their hard work.

The Friends of Buxton International Festival are hosting the evening of music based on The Great American Songbook performed by their Patron Wyn Davies, director of music at New Zealand Opera.

“Being a Friend involves a lot of giving,” said Wyn, an internationally renowned conductor who first appeared at the Buxton Festival in 1983 when he conducted the children’s opera James and the Giant Peach.

After an absence of four years, the Belper Short Play Festival will return in 2019.

Short Play Co-Ordinator SUE REANEY said “The Short Play Festival and the Belperamble which followed were very successful. When local writers and actors suggested bringing short plays back into the Festival programme I was thrilled to take on the challenge.”

Sergei Podobedov has been described by conductor Gennady Rozhdestvensky as: "a magnificent
pianist who possesses outstanding virtuosic skills combined with true musicality and a refined sense
of style." Known as one of the world's finest pianists, Sergei is set to play a concert in Belper.

More than 30 teams from local companies entered the second annual Derby Business Games organised by Derby-based Choose Sports and Timms Solicitors.

Teams gathered at the University of Derby to compete in a wide range of competitions from rounders and netball to egg and wheelbarrow races in the event. The afternoon finished with relays and a tug of war finale before trophies and medals were presented.

Even the dragons in fantasy TV show Game of Thrones can help teach real history, Buxton International Festival heard during a debate on the blurring of lines between fiction and fact when describing the past.
