Workers would vote for this Victorian’s values

Not all Victorians’ values were bad — and Britain’s long-suffering workers would be better off if we’d listen to at least one of them, leading psychologist Professor Sir Cary Cooper has said.

John Ruskin, an art critic, social commentator and one-man early warning system about the drudgery of work in the machine age, is today the inspiration for enlightened industrialists, Buxton International Festival’s Big Weekend will discover on October 18.

Coast To Coast Cyclists Support Viva’s Work in Local Communities

A group of cycling enthusiasts have completed a coast to coast challenge and raised £500 for Derby-based Sinfonia Viva orchestra’s ‘Make a Child Smile’ appeal.

Carl Muldal, who works at Rolls-Royce plc and is a board member of Sinfonia Viva, brought together a group of friends to cycle 140 miles west to east across the country in a weekend.

The money raised will go towards further expanding the orchestra’s work including a three-year creative project which has been established thanks to grant funding from BBC Children in Need. 

Street Art Success for DCG Students

Visitors to Melbourne Arts Festival in South Derbyshire were treated to a series of street art installations created by students at Derby College Group (DCG).

The level three Art and Design students, who are based at the Joseph Wright Post 16 Academic and Arts College, made colourful and thought-provoking work for the art and architecture trail.

Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust are delighted to announce a programme of celebratory events for the community, visitors, local artists and musicians that will celebrate the town’s water. The Trust are working closely with award-winning artist Amy Sharrocks on an inspiring multi-discipline artistic programme that offers residents and local artists the chance to share thoughts about the town’s liquid assets, to perform and work collaboratively.

Based on a true story of a bicycle journey from Vietnam to Thailand, Saigon to Bangkok, but likes those films inspired by true events, which parts are true and which are fiction? You, the audience, must decide!

Our journey will take us to great cities and ancient temples, and we will meet wild animals of various shapes and sizes as well as a beautiful woman, an old monk, a grumpy old man, and a very bad busker!

Pete's a storyteller of some renown and his tale melds traditional tales with his own two wheeled adventures in far off lands.
