Pandora’s Box (PG)

One of the great silent films, GW Pabst’s Pandora’s Box is renowned for its sensational storyline, sparkling Weimar-period setting and the legendary, lead performance from its iconic star Louise Brooks. Pandora’s Box now stands as an incredibly modern movie, and few stars of any era dazzle as bright as Louise Brooks.

Ron Fawcett & Rab Carrington

Rab Carrington has been climbing for 54 years and loved every minute of it. Through climbing I have made a host of great friends and met up with many real characters, and I have travelled throughout the world from the confines of the UK on to Europe, then North America, South America and the Himalayas of Asia. Retirement allowed me continue onto Africa and Australasia. Climbing also gave me a career in setting up and manufacturing RAB equipment. Climbing has been and still is my life. If you want to know more come and see me sat on the couch answering your questions.

Ron Fawcett is a natural-born climber. In 1969, while still at school in his native Yorkshire, he tied into a climbing rope for the first time and was instantly hooked. From that moment on, it seemed nothing else in his life mattered nearly as much as his next vertical fix.

Northern Chamber Orchestra

Freddy Kempf

The Northern Chamber Orchestra's first Buxton concert in their 2018-19 season sees a programme full of turbulent energy and colossal music in the company of one of the greatest pianists of his generation, Freddy Kempf.

The evening starts with the Hebrides Overture, written by Mendelssohn after a memorable trip to Fingal’s Cave. This overture sets a suitably dramatic scene before Beethoven’s great C minor piano concerto written at a time when the composer was coming to terms with impending deafness. The concerto demonstrates that he was not going to accept his situation meekly, and in the last movement he seems to be confronting his condition with an almost irascible humour.

Buxton Buzz Comedy Club

Tonight’s Buzz Club headliner is Duncan Oakley. With musical skills that would easily fit into many rock bands, Duncan Oakley performs an infectious mix of musical comedy and stand up. Lindsey Santoro hails from Birmingham (but don't hold that against her). She recounts tales of her misadventures in life, all in her trademark down to earth, side-splitting style. Robson Stroud is a theatre and comedy nerd and obsessed about the spoken word and the power of voices and language. He has always been a performer and entertainer since about the age of three when he used to imitate television adverts and actors. To this day he can perform over 100 accents and celebrities. Robson recently supported Charlie Chuck on his 2017 tour.

Ross Noble

El Hablador

Who is El Hablador?  It’s Ross Noble.

No, but who is the one they call El Hablador?   I just said, it is Ross Noble. You know? Long hair, does stand up where he dances about the stage, spinning out all the nonsense in his head into a show.

But what is the legend of El Hablador?  I don’t think it’s a thing. It’s clearly Ross coming up with a name for his show, so he can make out like he is some sort of mysterious shadowy figure. Ross Noble returns to dance around the stage spinning out all the nonsense in his head into a hilarious stand up show. At some point, he may wander into a shadowy part of the stage and look a bit shadowy.

Book now to see the one they call El Hablador.
