An Audience With Yasmine Day

Venue: Underground, Water Street, Buxton

When: 5th and 6th July at 4pm. 7th July at 7pm

Meet failed 80s diva and Dorking's most successful pub singer Yasmine Day. A self-proclaimed superstar, Yasmine (character comedian Jay Bennett) boldly attempts to revive her flagging career with a last ditch effort to pull off shoulder pads and a cabaret extravaganza with the help of her loyal fans (AKA the audience!)

As seen on BBC3 Quickies, Jay Bennett – one half of sketch duo Next Best Thing – returns to the Buxton Fringe 2019 with a daring, prima donna-dominated debut solo hour An Audience With Yasmine Day. Expect to sing along to unique renditions of 80s power ballads, enjoy world-famous original tracks you've never heard of and hear revealing, potentially slanderous (definitely true) celebrity anecdotes.

Skilfully written and well-observed…absurdist humour’

[Praise for Next Best Thing]

Seen on BBC3, Jay wrote and appeared in BBC3 Quickie 'When your date lies on their Tinder profile' (See footage link below). Since training in Musical Theatre at the Guildford School of Acting, Jay has been writing and performing comedy for five years. One half of absurdist sketch duo Next Best Thing alongside Katie Davison, with three successful Edinburgh Fringe runs under her belt, Jay returns to tickle audience funny bones and prick their 80s nostalgia with her 2019 debut solo hour.

In 2018 Jay Bennett was a Finalist at London Cabaret Awards before going on to showcase her ‘sheer talent’ (Buxton Fringe Review 2018) and receive a nomination for ‘Best Comedy Event’ at Buxton Festival Fringe.

Jay also performs regularly with improv troupe Long Weekend in the Free Association’s 60 minute HAROLD nights. She has also taken improv shows across Europe and to DCM in New York with team KEITH.
