Art in the Window 2015 Glossopdale

This summer over 50 independent retailers in Glossop are taking part in Art in the Window 2015 transforming the streets into art galleries and providing local artists and artisan makers in the area the perfect opportunity to showcase their work.

Art in the Window will take place from the 1st August to 31st Bank Holiday Monday.

Shop windows, restaurants and retailers will displays work including photography, sculpture, fine art, textiles as well as painting and drawing. It will prove to be an eclectic mix of amateur and professional artists. This will include students work from Glossopdale Community College and Glossop Arts Project participants.

This year Glossop Arts Project (GAP) – Arts for Wellbeing will be organising the exhibition and will exhibit work produced by the participants.

GAP runs weekly ‘Arts for wellbeing’ sessions for people with long term health conditions, physical disabilities and mental health problems. There will also be displays from the ‘Hands on Art’ which is an arts and craft group for adults with learning disabilities.

Glossop is home to an incredible number of talented artists. We also have a large number of independent retailers including Glossop Indoor Market. Art in the Window is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the success and the diversity of our community.

It is the first year GAP has co-ordinated Art in the Window and they will produce an Art Trail map to ensure all the artwork is seen. Many pieces will be for sale and there will be notices to accompany the displays with contact details.

Spokesperson for GAP Sonja Quirk says,

“We hope you are able to take the time this summer to walk down the high street sample the fresh coffee, delicious food, individual gift ideas and the amazing art work this town has to offer”.
