Kay Nyx was born and raised in a sleepy rural corner of Northamptonshire. The landscape made a big impression on the young creative, leading to an environmental passion and commencement on the path of Neo-Paganism.

In 2021 Nyx moved to the beautiful county of Derbyshire to find inspiration amongst the rolling hills and Neolithic landmarks scattered across the land.

The Peak District and Amber Valley have been informing Nyx's working practices, progressing towards a fully sustainable and natural artistic studio. The surrounding countryside has inspired Nyx to harness its magnificence within their artwork, fully embracing their magical background.

Studying Neo-Pagan religions, practices, and the Occult has assisted Nyx throughout their life, one, in particular, being influential to their artwork, Aleister Crowley.

Aleister Crowley is a well-known Occultist and Ceremonial Magician who was also Autistic. Nyx themselves is Autistic and has found many of Crowley's writings relatable to the Autistic experience. One quote has significantly affected Nyx's way of working.

"I hardly ever talk - words seem such a waste, and they are none of them true. No one has yet invented a language from my point of view.”

As an Autistic artist, Nyx now uses their artwork to communicate their different perspective of the world around us because languages are complex for them to comprehend or express. This give's their work an added depth beyond the initial "nice" aesthetic.

It is this depth that leads us to Nyx's next source of inspiration, Kazimir Malevich. Malevich conceived the concept of Suprematism. This artwork moves as far away from the natural world as possible to feel pure spirituality.

Whilst Nyx keeps their feet firmly on the ground by being figurative in many artworks; they find a deep sense of spirituality whilst painting. For Nyx, it is a form of prayer to creative deities such as Apollo, Athena, Dionysus, Hephaestus and the Muses. The prayer state Nyx enters whilst working can be seen in the fine details, textures and layering in works of art.

The techniques used by Kay Nyx are all self-taught and come about through experimentation in their art studio. Nyx loves to play with ideas and materials. The medium and surfaces change depending on the best way to communicate a particular message. However, Nyx's works are predominantly digital. Currently, Nyx is experimenting with making their art supplies from eco-friendly, natural and sustainable sources.

Nyx has exhibited at: Twitter Art Exhibition 2022, York and CISTA Arts 'Light and Shadow' 2022, London and will be in an exhibition in Leeds 2023. The latest exhibition dates can be found on the website if you want to keep up to date with their artwork.
