MEMBER: The Bushido Academies (Derbyshire)
The Bushido Academy was formed in 1976, and was originally called the Derbyshire ju-jitsu Academy and was founded by Mr S.A.Elliott 8th Dan ju-jitsu, & Senior executive officer in the W.J.J.F & was assisted by his oldest student Mr M Marriott 8th Dan . We at The Bushido Academy have been teaching in Derbyshire for over 30 years & we bring a wealth of coaching talent with some of the highest grades in the country. We were founder members of the world Ju-Jitsu federation & have won many trophies over the years. As of 2013 we became founding members of the Bushido Academies International (B.A.I).
Our aim at the academy is to teach Ju Jitsu, Kobudo & Bartitsu to a very high standard. All of our teachers (known as Sensei) are at black belt level & have many years of teaching experience. Ju Jitsu is a Japanese martial art that is used for defence. Kobudo is also a Japanese martial art, but involves the use of weapons such as a staff, sword or Nunchuku etc. Bartitsu, though Japanese in style is actually a very English martial art that originates in Victorian London of the 19th Century & is based on attack & defence with a cane or swagger stick. Bartitsu became popular very quickly due to it's use by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's fictional detective Sherlock Holmes.
As of January 2015 three coaches are resident within the academies, Hanshi S. A. Elliott, Head of the B.A.I, Shihan S.J. Elliott, Secretary of the B.A.I, and Derbyshire's Young Sports Coach of the Year 2014, Sensei R. C. Martin.
