This 8-week course explores the novel-writing process from initial hook to final edits, helping you to develop plot, structure, character, dialogue and style. You'll analyse examples of great writing, experiment with creative exercises, and get feedback on your own work and ideas. You'll also learn how to prepare your novel for submission to agents or publishers and consider what makes it unique.

Developing initial ideas and establishing a 'hook'
Creating believable characters and making your reader care about them
Different approaches to planning and plotting
Narrative structures and how they work/how to use them
Building suspense, keeping the reader gripped
Dialogue, description, and style
Editing and improving
Preparing your book for submission
Helen Cooper is a writer from Derby. She has taught English and Academic Writing in both FE and HE, and most recently was Head of Learning Enhancement at the University of Birmingham.
