This is Gerry’s third foyer exhibition at Banks Mill and will be showing from Tues 14 Jan until Fri 28 Feb 2020.

Gerry is showing visually exciting figurative mixed media sculptural tableau, entitled The Sin Eater Sideshow, based on the idea of a travelling circus side show.

In many world cultures, and up to the 1960’s in England, a Sin Eater was a person who ate a piece of bread and some libation, laid out for him on the breast of a recently deceased person in order to take on their sins, thus absolving their soul. He was paid a silver sixpence for this task.

From Tues 4 Feb 2020, the show will be joined by further visually exciting imagery exploring one of the Deadly Sins in focus – ANGER. With further 3D tableau work largely occupying the window sill areas in the gallery..

This part of the exhibition has the title Anger-Man-Age-Meant and explores anger in its many forms and some of its antidotes..

Gerry will be hosting two free drop-in events during the exhibition. One in Jan and one in Feb. Drinks, nibbles and exhibition ‘walk-throughs’ will take place, where you can meet the artist and ask about any aspects of her artwork.

The first ‘Meet the Artist’ event is on Tues, Jan 14. The second event, covering both the Sin Eater Sideshow and Anger Man-Age-Meant exhibitions is on Tues 4 Feb.

Both events are free to attend and include free drinks and nibbles.

Gerry Henegan Barr is an Affiliate Member at Banks Mill Studios; She also has a studio opposite Sneinton market in Nottingham at Surface Gallery. She works two days a week for Derbyshire Adult Services, as well as being a qualified Holistic Health practitioner. Along with other Banks Mill artists, she currently has a 3D self portrait in Derby’s Quad gallery until 29th March 2020.
