Five women artists explore the concept of the maternal, using diverse subject matter and a range of media such as textiles, sculpture and installations.

The multi-faceted relationships between mothers and children are portrayed from different perspectives, challenging the viewer and questioning our stereotypes and perceptions of motherhood.

Specific topics investigated include how motherhood has changed since the 1940s, how fears and concerns can escalate and become taboos, and the fragility of time and relationships. The artists look at the role of the mother, and how society shapes our pre-conceived notions of what is acceptable and desirable for women with children. The work is vulnerable, honest and stimulating, and highlights the complexities of this most fundamental of relationships.

The exhibition runs from 6 – 26 July and is open to the public week days 10am-3pm (please ring ahead to guarantee entry if travelling a distance).
