Earth Journey is an exhibition of work by felt artist Anne Alldread and will include a selection of wall hangings and rugs with a collective theme. Anne sees the world and its history in layers. Elements of geology and human presence can often be seen within unearthed or exposed areas of the world, these fragments and signs of intrigue are often seen together giving clues of our ancient lands and people. Mark making to Anne is core to ancient human communication and development and it is fascinating to find almost identical ancient rock marked symbols in an area in Australia and also these same symbols seen in rocks in Scotland.

Looking at these ancient symbols with a contemporary eye, Anne develops patterns and layering techniques using wool fibres. Anne comments: “The evolving process of working with and making felt is core to my practise. I see the world and its history in layers, elements of geology and human presence often brought together in inquiring ways. Earth Journey is a human development of mark making shown in my work and I enjoy the layering and development of ideas through the different processes.”
