‘Bringing the Everyday to Life' Poetry workshop with Natalie Burdett

Poetry workshop
Though we often think of poetry’s capacity to sustain us through extreme times, it can also celebrate life’s smaller pleasures or annoyances. Andrew Motion said, ‘What we very badly need to remember is that the things right under our noses are extraordinary, fascinating, irreplaceable, profound and just kind of marvellous.'

In this supportive and engaging workshop we will look at varied poems that highlight the extraordinary in everyday events or seemingly commonplace objects. Using the poets’ varied strategies as prompts for our own writing, we will create first drafts of new poems which draw attention to things that might otherwise be overlooked. Please bring along pens and paper or your usual writing implement. The workshop is suitable for adults writing poetry at all levels.

Natalie Burdett is from the West Midlands, and divides her time between there and the North West. She is currently studying for a Creative Writing PhD at Manchester Metropolitan University. Her Laureate’s Choice pamphlet Urban Drift was published by smith|doorstop in 2018.

Booking essential, book early to avoid disappointment. A LoveLit writing workshop for adults, part of the writing ambitions workshop programme presented by Arts Derbyshire in partnership with Derbyshire Libraries.

Complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits will be available.
